In April 2023, after losing most of the sight in my left eye I received a life changing diagnosis that I had a large meningioma (the size of a large orange) in the frontal section of my brain.

I was transferred to the Walton Centre and was under the care of Mr Yousaf, who from my first appointment put me at ease. I was booked in for surgery on 11th May 2023, this surgery was 17 hours in duration but unfortunately only resulted in 30% of the tumour being removed, I was fitted with a drain to help to reduce the build up of fluid in my brain and to give Mr Yousaf and his team a week before operating again. A week later we went again, this time my surgery lasted 27 hours and again another 30% was removed. I was in hospital for three weeks and with the support of Mr Yousaf and the amazing team of nurses I was allowed to go home on 1st June. I was re admitted for my final surgery on 7th October 2024. This time Mr Yousaf enlisted the help of Professor Jenkinson to support him with my surgery. Thankfully, third time lucky, after a 15 hour surgery I woke up to be told that it had been a success and 99.8% of the tumour had been removed, no more surgeries were needed! Myself and my family will be forever grateful for the care and expertise that I received.

The same gratitude extends to every aspect of this hospital, every member of staff that we have met along the way; nurses, porters, reception staff, the surgical teams were all kind, caring and a credit to the NHS.

I am aiming to raise as much money as possible, taking on different challenges to support The Walton Centre Charity. The charity funds a variety of projects in the hospital including research, innovation, new technology and patient and family facilities. Unverified User
