Swifty at Fifty Donate On Saturday 3rd May I’m planning on proving that I’m still ‘swifty at fifty’ by completing the Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge’s 50-kilometre coastal walk with my school friend, Kate. Aside from marking my milestone birthday, the 70,000 or so strides I’ll take on the island will contribute to the 100,000 steps I’ve committed to complete during the month of May for Walk for Walton. This charity challenge is exceptionally close to my heart as it is raising funds to support the ‘home from home’ relatives’ accommodation at The Walton Centre hospital in Liverpool, ensuring families can stay close to loved ones who are undergoing life-saving treatment. The facility, which costs approximately £50,000 per year to run and is provided free to families who need it, was a Godsend for my late dad, sisters and I when my mum was admitted to the Centre in 2022. Coupled with the amazing care and support shown to us by every member of staff at the hospital, the home from home was a literal source of comfort – saving us from the stress and worry of having to leave mum for long periods. Being close to mum during her time at the Walton Centre meant the world to us and if you can help me to help others by allowing them to focus on a loved one, I would be hugely grateful.
