Lymm Runners take on 48hr challenge for The Walton Centre Charity A dedicated group of runners from Lymm are preparing to push their limits in an extraordinary endurance challenge to support The Walton Centre Charity. From Friday 4th April to Sunday 6th April, the Lymm Runners will take on the intense Goggins Challenge, running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours to raise an incredible £10,000 for the specialist neuroscience hospital. For one runner in particular, this challenge holds a deeply personal significance. Rich Waggitt, a long-time member of Lymm Runners, experienced life-changing treatment at The Walton Centre last year after his running friends noticed something was wrong. While out on a run, they saw that Rich had started leaning to one side. Not long after, he developed severe brain fog, struggling to even type on a keyboard. Concerned, he sought medical help, and an MRI revealed a cyst on his brain. Rich underwent successful surgery at The Walton Centre, and the transformation was immediate. “When I woke up after the operation, I felt like a new man. The pressure, the brain fog—it was all gone,” he shared. “I can’t thank The Walton Centre enough for giving me my life back.” After his recovery, Rich discovered that he wasn’t alone. At least six other members of the Lymm Runners had also received life-changing care at The Walton Centre. Inspired by their shared experiences, the club chose The Walton Centre Charity as their nominated charity of the year, determined to give back to the hospital that had done so much for them. Now, Rich and his teammates are gearing up for the ultimate test of endurance. The Goggins Challenge is a grueling feat, requiring participants to battle fatigue, mental exhaustion, and unpredictable weather conditions over two days. But for Rich and his fellow runners, it’s all worth it to raise vital funds and awareness for The Walton Centre Charity. “The Walton Centre saved my life, and I know many others who have benefited from their incredible care,” Rich said. “We’re hoping to raise £10,000—and with the help of our amazing supporters, we believe we can do it!” The challenge will take place at Maple Lodge Scout Hut on Pepper Street, Lymm, starting at 8 PM on Friday 4th April and concluding on Sunday 6th April. Supporters are encouraged to join in by running alongside the team, cheering them on, or making a donation to help them reach their fundraising target.
